The Fredericktown Community Fire District provides fre suppression, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, extrication, dive rescue, and fire prevention to our coverage area. We operate two firehouses, our main in the Village of Fredericktown which houses an engine, rescue, tanker and two grass trucks, 6×6 ATV, dive rescue trailer and a dive rescue boat. Along with that, our main station houses our offices, training center, meeting rooms and the majority of all loose equipment owned by the district.
Our second firehouse, located in Pike Township, was constructed to reduce response times as well as put apparatus closer to members that were living in the far eastern portion of our run district. This second house has an engine, a towable diesel generator, and some loose equipment along with the PPE for members.
Our area is a diverse 118 square mil region that is split by three, well-traveled state routes (OH 3, 95 & 13) that feed interstate routes. The multi-township district is primarily rural, but is home to residential, recreational water and land, commercial buildings, mines/quarries, educational facilities and significant agriculture. In addition to our primary response area, we provide contracted coverage for a small portion of Richland County that is remote and ore readily accessible from our district.
We operate a combination department, with two full-time firefighters staffing us Monday through Friday during daytime hours only, and a strong backbone of 29 volunteers. We have firefighters from the 36 hour Ohio Volunteer level, Firefighter I and Firefighter II levels that comprise our roster. We have five certified as rescue divers, five certified fire safety inspectors and two fire instructors within our ranks.
In addition to our firefighters, the FCFD operates a Fire Cadet program, geared toward involving youth with an interest in the fire service. Our cadets are high school aged young men and women of the Fredericktown Local School District and surrounding districts. They undergo a yearly academy of training to participate in responses along with twice monthly trainings as well to build skills that the need for our program.
